The Home Stretch

The closer I get to the finish line, the more I appreciate California’s maternity leave laws which allow up to 4 weeks before the birth off work. While I’m only taking two of those weeks, I cannot say that my body has been particularly pleased about sitting in my desk chair since around week 36 of my pregnancy. My sleeping patterns jumped from waking up one to four times a night to more on the order of 14 times a night due to discomfort and the need to roll over (no easy feat when you’re 8.5 months pregnant!). The Braxton Hicks contractions increased in frequency, duration and magnitude necessitating getting out of bed to “walk them off”. And the pain in my back/hips/legs defined what carrying around an extra 35+ lbs will do to your body. Needless to say, those four weeks off before the birth are looking a lot less crazy than they did when I was looking forward in my second trimester!
